Brighton Beach

Twentieth year, Russia is on fire
Many difficulties in the Cheka
Hundreds stood with his teeth to the wall
In Europe, the river gushed live
New York, the nightmare
Steel Jungle, silver dream
Tale deals the first blow
Odessa-Mama visited Hudson

Chorus:

Roulette, poker and a point
Hunting for a night game
Russian coast far and so long
Good Night, Brighton Beach

As the years passed, the work flowed
Qualification had to be
Gasoline without oil, a necklace of glass
Green money did not have time to wash
"Thomas", the printing press,
"Missouri", the eternal catch
Life - a fat chunk
A work of 16 hours

Markovich, Balagula, Marat
Forgive me Lord, do not come to the table
Guys have contributed

Wall in silk, Swiss bank account
Green Island in warm seas
Smoke cigars, martini and ice
Bears at their posts

Good night, Brighton Beach ....

The Agra Treasure (1983) (English subtitles).
The fourth part of TV adaptation of "Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson" that was made by LENFILM studio in 1983. The film based on the stories "The Sign of the Four" and "A Scandal in Bohemia". When you visit museum of Sherlock Holmes in London, Baker St., first thing that you see on the second floor is a number of pictures of all actors who ever played Holmes in the movies, and in the middle of that compilation you can see the biggest photo - the photo of Vasiliy Livanov. All world cinematographers (including British ones) have admitted that Vasiliy Livanov is the best Sherlock Holmes that ever appeared on screen. And it is true. There were made several movies about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson for Russian TV in the late 70's and early 80's, including such films as The Meeting, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Bloody Script and many more (about 10 total number). Livanov as Sherlock, Vitaliy Solomin as Watson, Rina Zelenaya as Mrs.Hudson, Borislav Brondukov as Inspector Lestrade all make these series directed by Igor Maslennikov an all-time masterpiece. Almost all of actors started their careers in theaters (Livanov, Solomin and Zelenaya continued giving performances even after their success on the big screen) which gave films amazing atmosphere of reality. The images of old London were carefully reconstructed in Baltic cities almost untouched by time which gave movies a lot of similarities with real XIX century London. All movies (it wouldn't be right to call them episodes) are set on very high level, and from the opening unforgettable music score they charm every viewer. It's very hard to distinguish the best film of the series, every of them has something unique. © LENFILM, 1983.

Come and See (1985) (English subtitles).

Come and See (1985) (English subtitles).
A feature by Elem Klimov made from the script by Ales Adamovich. It was released in 1985 and ranks among the most horrifying war films. It`s not only about the war of 1941-1945 exactly, but about any war, its devastating force sweeping away the natural course of things. The film is based upon documental facts and `The Khatyn Story` by Ales Adamovich. The authors describe the place and events which became a symbol of national tragedy. The hero of the film is Flyora, a sixteen-year-old boy that turned to the woods to help the partisans. At the beginning he is just a kid. Then he lives through the horror of the Nazi executions and becomes amazingly grown-up, and even old. The war had distorted the once tender childish facial features - it`s all wrinkles now. The altered face of Flyora is the face of War. The authors were so true-to-life, uncompromising and austere as to portray in the centre of the film not some grown-up man, but an unexperie nced kid with his childhood still here. The title derives from from The Apocalypse of John, Chapter 6: "And I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with a voice of thunder, "Come and see!" The Hound of the Baskervilles (1981) (English subtitles).
The Hound of the Baskervilles is a 1981 Soviet film adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's novel of the same name. It was the third installment in the TV series about adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. A potent streak of humour ran through the film as concerns references to traditional British customs and stereotypes, ensuring the film's popularity with several generations of Russophone viewers. Other features of this best entry in the series include excellent exterior shots which closely match the novel's setting in the Dartmoor marshland, as well as an all-star cast: in addition to the famous Livanov - Solomin duo as Holmes an Watson, the film stars an internationally acclaimed actor/director Nikita Mikhalkov as Sir Henry Baskerville and the Russian movie legend Oleg Yankovsky as the villain Stapleton. When you visit museum of Sherlock Holmes in London, Baker St., first thing that you see on the second floor is a number of pictures of all actors who ever played Holmes in the movies, and in the middle of that compilation you can see the biggest photo - the photo of Vasiliy Livanov.
